THE AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY
Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, not for profit, international university first established in 1983.Improving Access to Maternal and Newborn Health (IMPACT) is a four-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and Aga Khan Foundation, Canada (AKFC). The purpose of IMPACT project is to accelerate the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity by improving the availability and utilization of quality MNH services and health seeking behaviours in eight districts of Mwanza region, Tanzania. Aga Khan School of Nursing and Midwifery (AKU SONAM) is a partner in this project with the remit to develop comprehensive needs led training programme of Nurses and Midwives in the selected health facilities. In addition, AKU SONAM has the remit to develop an adaptive curriculum to upskill 21 Midwives from the selected sites from diploma level to Bachelor.
As a lead nurse midwife, you will be responsible to coordinate capacity building programs for nurses and midwives within the project designated sites and support SONAM academic activities within the IMPACT project. You will be required to work closely with the IMPACT project coordinator, regional and respective district authorities. This post will require you to be based in Mwanza, Tanzania
Your responsibilities being;
  • Support capacity building of over 200 midwives in designated project sites
  • Provide clinical supervision to about 21 Midwives upgrading from diploma to degree
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation of project performance
  • Ensure smooth implementation of the project within the allocated budgets and plans
  • Identify potential and actual challenges and escalate appropriately
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Masters Midwifery or other relevant health related academic qualifications
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Tanzania
  • Up to date license to practice in Tanzania
  • Certificate in project management will be an added advantage
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working as a nurse midwife in clinical or educational institutions
  • • Recognized trainer of trainers (TOT) in Reproductive Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent health (RMNCAH)
  • Experience in Research
  • Experience in project planning, monitoring and evaluation
