Job Opportunity - Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Program Assistant, Zanzibar, Tanzania

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Program Assistant will support the implementation of the Child Protection and Child Rights Governance programme in Zanzibar under the direction of the Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Coordinator and in coordination with other CP/CRG team members.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Save the Children delivers programming in Zanzibar (both islands, Unguja and Pemba) in the fields of Maternal New born and Child Health and Nutrition, Child Protection and Child Rights Governance, in coordination with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, the Government of Tanzania and local partners. Through this work, Save the Children seeks to make contributions to child survival, eliminating Violence Against Children, including ending the use of physical and humiliating punishment in the home and school settings and preventing child sexual abuse and exploitation, as well as promoting child participation in public policy decision making. In Tanzania, Save the Children currently has operational presence in Dodoma, Kibondo, Shinyanga, Songwe and Zanzibar, as well as Dar es Salaam. We employ nearly 100 staff and have an annual operating budget of approximately $8 million.

Reports to: Child Protection and Child Rights Governance Coordinator

Dimensions: Works daily with all members of the Zanzibar office, especially the Child Protection and Child Rights Governance team as well as members of support functions (Supply Chain, Finance)

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Project implementation

Support CP/CRG team with project implementation both at the office and in the field, providing primarily logistical and administrative support for preparing for, conducting and documenting meetings, trainings and workshops (participant lists, venue arrangements, minutes and note-taking, photos, report writing). In some cases, the post holder may take on additional roles related to activity implementation, such as being part of the facilitation team, planning activities, contributing to roll-out approaches/strategies, and similar.
Participate in implementation planning alongside the CP/CRG team as well as project/program reviews and reflection sessions.
Support CP/CRG team with provision of information to project beneficiaries on Save the Children's Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct as well as established accountability mechanisms.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning / Research

Under the direction of the CP/CRG MEAL Coordinator, support CP/CRG team with project monitoring and data collection, including logistical and administrative support for monitoring/data collection visits, as well as participating in data collection in the field, data entry and data analysis as required.
Under the direction of the CP/CRG MEAL Coordinator, support the archiving of project documentation.
Under the direction of the CP/CRG MEAL Coordinator, support the collection of material (including photos) for documenting case studies and success stories as well as voices of beneficiaries.
Support the application of established Quality Benchmarks in project activities.
Child Safeguarding

All staff have an obligation to ensure they fully understand the provisions of the Child Safeguarding Policy, the Code of Conduct and related policies. They must conduct themselves in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, in their personal and professional lives – which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse.
All staff must ensure the way they are carrying out their work is not putting children at risk (or further risk).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant domain, such as Social Work, Education, Rural/Community Development, Sociology, Communications or Psychology
  • Past experience in community mobilization projects, including children's projects, an asset
  • Fluent in Kiswahili, good spoken English; excellent verbal communication skills with a range of stakeholders a must
  • Strong writing skills an asset; interest/willingness to learn about project documentation and report writing a must
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Team player, able to take direction and work with others
  • Familiar with word processing programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Design and communication skills, including photography, an asset
  • Ability to travel to field locations regularly, including some overnight stays; availability on weekends
  • Understanding of and commitment to principles of child rights and child protection
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children's aims and values in practice
  • Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment; past experience in a multi-cultural environment an asset
  • Willing to comply with all relevant Save the Children and procedures with respect to child rights and safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
