Purpose of the Job
Develop and sustainably manage business linkages within the CHIPS Program
Specific Responsibilities
Project Planning
a) In liaison with the Program Team , develop detailed project activity work plans and budgets
b) Provide technical input in new project proposals Project Implementation
a) Conduct Market research and establish viable markets for seed and ware Potatoes
b) Analyze the data collected from the Market Research and generate knowledge products and also prepare presentations on the findings of the Research.
c) Build the capacity of the value chain actors in Potatoes to appreciate structured markets
d) To increase productivity, quality and volumes of Potatoes traded collectively and commercially.
e) Facilitate and ensure that smallholder traders are integrated into CHIPS business models.
f) Implement business models that enhance efficiency of sourcing for Potatoes and marketing through structured value chain linkages, improved technology and process management, and hence increased profitability;
g) Implement project plans and track progress against key milestones and deliverables
h) Conduct regular field/site visits to manage, guide, review and evaluate project progress
i) Implement a system of compliance assessment to ensure adherence to project standards and requirements
j) Assist the Project Team to establish resource need and examine alternative implementation strategies/approaches/methodologies.
k) Organize Food Fairs to generate awareness for new varieties of Potatoes

a) Comply with project financial controls and all laid out operational procedures
b) Run basic administration activities of the office e.g. ensuring that there are sufficient supplies, the equipment is in good condition, the office is well maintained and clean, attending to guests, running errands, filing of key documentation including financial documents,Project Monitoring & Evaluation

Technical Competence Requirements
a) Expertise and experience in establishing and nurturing partnerships (Value chain expertise in the development of Partnerships with Small Holder Traders/vendors is essential for the achievement of project objectives and deliverables).
b) Experience in introduction of new technologies, approaches, models, resources and processes to ensure that value chain actors and smallholder farming communities when operationalize would lead to increased competitiveness;
c) Expertise in designing effective capacity building approaches for smallholder traders/vendors to increase volumes traded and ensure profitability;
d) Expertise in project execution especially donor-funded projects in the agri-business sector
e) Ability to effectively manage stakeholders and other value chain actors to effectively reach beneficial agreements at project outset and throughout the life of the project.
f) Ability to identify, document, track and control issues and implement change according to lessons learnt where necessary and make other decisions to ensure the project is on track

Educational Qualifications and Experience Required
a) Master’s degree in any field of agriculture, or agricultural economics; development studies; business studies majoring in agribusiness with strong understanding of marketing and development of marketing models.
b) A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or field related to the work of the Project applied for
c) A minimum of five years of progressive project management
d) Two years experience in Marketing in the Horticultural sector
e) Ability to Speak and write English and Kiswahili very well
